Been thinking about you a lot because I've fallen into the trap that I fall into far too often of overcomplicating replying to the email you sent me a month ago.  The things I let get me in trouble with email...*sigh*...and then before you know it I'm in deep with trying to make up for all kinds of things that I need to just cut my losses on.  Maybe someday I'll learn my lesson.  At any rate, you'll be hearing from me again real soon.

After finally sending you the overcomplicated email, I felt really bad at how much that email had become a product of a bunch of demons I was fighting.  Getting it sent to you felt like it was about finally not having to feel guilty about having not sent it yet.
 +
 +
But, once I was relieved of that guilt, I was horrified at how much time had passed and how I'd been wanting to call all this time, but was somehow operating by the rule that I couldn't until I'd gotten the email sent to you.
 +
 +
Email can sure tie me up in knots...and I'm wondering if that's why that overcomplicated email turned out to be a monologue, and I didn't even ask you how you were!!!  I'm guessing that I didn't want to start up an email dialogue that might get me in trouble yet again.  I just wanted to finish the task of sending the overcomplicated email so I could finally feel like I could call you.

I feel like by worrying so much about being a bad friend, I've been even worse of a friend.  I have so many funny rules that I seem to be operating by that cause me trouble...I do funny things to try to take care of the other person...about what they might or might not want to hear about...and whether what I'm writing is for me or for them...and all kinds of other things...  At any rate, sorry all this craziness has kept me out of touch...and I better get this sent off to you before I start deciding anything funny about it...and switch to talking to you over the phone which is one of my favorite mediums (vs. email which is one of my very least favorite mediums).

I fear you worry too much. You can write me every day, or once every ten years, and I'll still always be grateful and happy to hear from you. =)

A few weeks ago I was reading from Evelyn Underhill’s book Practical Mysticism ”Because mystery is horrible to us, we have agreed for the most part to live in a world of labels;” a light bulb in my mind went off.  Of course, maybe labeling and judging is about safety and comfort, even belonging and community.  If we label, especially when we are experiencing discomfort with someone, possibly we are provided some relief from our discomfort by classifying what is wrong (the label, judgment or blame).
