- Algonquin Provincial Park is a place that Dan Phalen recommended visiting in August for camping...looks like September would be nice as well...and there are lodges inside the park as well as campgrounds...it takes about 8.5 hours to drive there...
Toronto
https://sansotei.com - near train station and near hotel, too, I think
Founded in downtown Toronto in 2012 and since expanded to several locations across the GTA, Ottawa and Montreal, Sansotei is a Canadian ramen brand that takes its inspiration from the Kyushu and Hokkaido regions of Japan. They specialize in tonkotsu ramen, so we always go for that one. It comes with pork chasu, black fungus (mushrooms), green onions and a soft-boiled egg, all in their rich, creamy pork bone broth that’s made fresh daily. If you’re after something out of the ordinary, their tomato ramen comes with pork chasu, Hokkaido scallop and shitake mushrooms.

Places to see beech trees
- Creekshead Nature Preserve (20 min drive from our house)
http://www.legacylandconservancy.org/index.php/protecting-lands/view/protected-lands/ This 27-acre natural area contains wooded wetland, mature beech-maple-basswood forest and spectacular Spring wildflower blooms. It's so named for the fact that it is located in the headwaters area of both Johnson Creek, in the Rouge River watershed, and Nelson Creek, in the Huron River watershed. To visit: Creekshead is just northeast of Ann Arbor in Salem Township, on Curtis Road between Brookville and Five Mile Roads. Park along the west side of the road in front of the woods and please watch for traffic.
- Warren woods near warren dunes near Three Oaks, MI
Two-thirds of Warren Woods Natural Area's 311 acres consist of a beech/maple climax forest. A quiet hiking trail leads over a bridge that looks over the rustic Galien River in this undisturbed natural area.
Size: 312 acres
Location: In southwestern Berrien Co., 3 miles north of Three Oaks
Activities: Wildflower viewing, hiking, education, birding
Importance: Warren Woods is a virgin beech-maple forest, the last of its type known in Michigan. There are outstanding individual trees of several species, including many greater than five feet in diameter and more than 125 feet in height. Spectacular displays of wildflowers are best viewed in April and early May.

- Sharon Hollow
Saturday, August 8, 2009 - Naturalist Bonanza - Sharon Hollow, Michigan Join us for an aquatic nature walk led by Todd Crail in the fabulous upper River Raisin. This is one of the best sites to view Unionid mussels within an hour of Toledo displaying their unbelievable lures to attract fish hosts for their young (http://www.farmertodd.com/mussels.asp) We will also view up to 30 species of fish, including some of the brightly colored darters and non-game sunfish. The walk will be accented with the August burst of color in the riparian vegetation, and can include extending the trip to Nan Weston Preserve, owned by The Nature Conservancy, which is a beautiful mixed forest reflective of the amazing underlying geology. Sandhill crane, chestnut-sided warbler, barred owl and dickcissel are a sampling of the birds you might see. Further details on meeting place and time to be announced in July Newsletter. To find out further details on a time and meeting place contact Todd Crail at 419-386-6668 or email todd.crail@utoledo.edu
